The Dolton Public Library: SALC and the Dolton Public Library have been community partners since the Council's inception in 1979. The mission of the Dolton Public Library is the enhancement of the economic, social and cultural vitality of the community through high quality resources, services, books and programming.
ProLiteracy America: ProLiteracy America, the U.S. Programs Division of ProLiteracy Worldwide, represents 1,200 community-based volunteer and adult basic education affiliates in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. ProLiteracy America provides accreditation, advocacy, and technical assistance as well as program and professional development services. In addition, its affiliates benefit from an annual conference and a menu of regional trainings.
ProLiteracy Worldwide is a nonprofit international literacy organization based in Syracuse, NY, that was formed by the 2002 merger of Laubach Literacy International and Literacy Volunteers of America, Inc. ProLiteracy Worldwide is now the oldest and largest nongovernmental literacy organization in the world and pursues a mission of sponsoring educational programs that help adults and their families acquire the literacy practices and skills they need to function more effectively in their daily lives.
Illinois State Library Literacy Office: The Council has been part of the state network of programs funded by the State Library's Adult Literacy Grant Program since 1986. The Illinois State Library Literacy Office administers grant programs that provide basic literacy services to enhance reading, math, writing or language skills for targeted program participants. These direct-service grants are awarded through an annual competitive application process. The office also supports The Illinois Adult Learning Hotline, 1-800-321-9511, a statewide referral system which links prospective students or volunteers to local literacy and adult education programs.
The South Suburban Literacy Coalition: SALC is an active member of the Coalition of adult literacy programs that offer basic skills tutoring for adult learners living in the south suburbs of Chicago. The Coalition sponsors cooperative in-service training programs for tutors, offers support activities for students, and promotes initiatives that advance adult literacy in its service area.
